Today we continue our on-going series on the 2015 Baldwin Cup Sailors, to find out more about the than their Collegiate All-American stats, and to find out what lurks beneath their steely racing exteriors.

2015 Meet Team Seattle

Seattle Yacht Club, frequently in plaid, has always put in a strong showing at Baldwin Cup, but has yet to claim the title from the always competitive field. Will this year be the year? Let’s hear what these Pacific Northwest sailors are bringing to the race course this year:

Where are you from originally and where did you sail in college? Seattle and USC/Navy

What did you learn to sail in? Laser

What is your usual pre-regatta ritual? I need one.

What’s your boat’s theme or fight song?

Sail with a significant other? The only way to sail the high (or low) seas

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? Knowing how quickly you can luff someone

How have you trained for this regatta? Single handed Vanguard 15s with no jibs

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? Every part

Who do you think is your biggest competition? Why? NHYC, they are fast

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? Every dog has it’s day

What is your usual pre-regatta ritual? Pack enough clothes to make sure I’m warm.

What’s your boat’s theme or fight song?

Sail with a significant other? The only way to sail the high (or low) seas

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? Group huddle after losing a race…

How have you trained for this regatta? Weeknight singlehanded V15s with main-only.

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? Peeing in a bucket

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? I can’t tell you our plan.

Where are you from originally and where did you sail in college? San Francisco and University of Washington

What did you learn to sail in? El Toros

Sail with a significant other? Depends

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? Keeping track of everyone and that it’s easy for the lead to change right up to the finish

How have you trained for this regatta? Practice followed by beer

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? I am looking forward to intense racing on seat cushions

What did you learn to sail in? 420s

What is your usual pre-regatta ritual? Lots of coffee

What did you learn to sail in? Blue Jays, of course

What’s your boat’s theme or fight song?

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? The good advice from teammates.

How have you trained for this regatta? Whiskey Wednesdays

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? Ice sculpture shots?

Who do you think is your biggest competition? Why? It is considered sporting to let the home team win.

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? No passes on the 1 yard line for our team.

Where are you from originally and where did you sail in college? Seattle and University of Washington

What did you learn to sail in? 420s, FJs, 470s

What is your usual pre-regatta ritual? Collecting all my stuff: LJ, sunglasses, gloves, watch, hat, sunscreen.

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? Starting and stopping Harbor 20s is a challenge.

How have you trained for this regatta? Single-handing V-15s with mains only on Portage Bay. 4 on 4.

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? Getting invited! Making the team!

Who do you think is your biggest competition? Why? People who are good at starting and stopping Harbor 20s.

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? Because we have practiced extensively single-handing V-15s with mains only, and rehashed the rules afterwards.

Where are you from originally and where did you sail in college? New Orleans/Seattle and Dartmouth

What did you learn to sail in? Optimist

What is your usual pre-regatta ritual? Classified.

Sail with a significant other? The only way to sail the high (or low) seas

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing? Starting. I used to be good at it, now it seems like I just take myself and someone else out every time, I just hope more often than not that other boat is not on my team.

How have you trained for this regatta? I’ve been eating a lot of Oreo cookies, I was told they’re great for putting on muscle. I also figured out its better if you just stay on Starboard the whole time. 3-5 push-ups a day.

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? Brits lip-syncing Spice Girls. It was over at that point.

Who do you think is your biggest competition? Why? Sticking to my answer from last year: Quarter beers.

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? We’re all married couples so it will be very smooth with no arguing or melt-downs.

Hardest or favorite part of Team Racing?
Hardest: keeping my skipper inline
Favorite: the close combinations in 4v4 where nobody knows who won except RCsomeone

How have you trained for this regatta? Air squats and keg stands

Favorite Baldwin Cup Moment? It’s all a blur of excitment

Who do you think is your biggest competition? Why? Just being at the Baldwin makes us all winners

Why will your team win this year’s Baldwin Cup? Stunning good looks
