If you look closely at a red pit crew shirt, you will see the letters BA stamped in black. These are the initials of Bill Allen, an ardent Harbor 20 sailor and Pit Crew Veteran who passed away last month. Bill grew up sailing ocean racing boats and eagerly transitioned his enthusiasm to Harbor 20s. He raced all year round in ‘174’ with the local Fleet 1, and “Sea Thru” was involved with the Baldwin Cup since it’s inaugural race in 2007. He was a quiet man and you might not have noticed him until he stood up and his 6’7’ body unfolded. Thus he was hard to miss on the docks as part of the pit crew. Bill could be found readying boats annually for the regatta, working the docks and happily and adroitly tackling problems. As was Bill’s wish, “Sea Thru” is once again a borrowed boat for this year’s Baldwin Cup.
We miss you Bill and we will carry you with us. Sail on.
