Newport Harbor Yacht Club once again welcomed competitors from 9 respected yacht clubs from across the United States, and The Royal Thames Yacht Club from London. How did we welcome them? In the words of Race Administrator Charlie Underwood, with a “pretty west coast mellow” day of racing.

Alfredo Ricci, a visiting umpire from Italy, added to the complimentary words, calling our Baldwin Cup Team race “great stadium racing, marvelous and, as they say in my home country, just another day the office.”

Just as racing was wrapping for the day we checked in with Greg Helias of NHYC Lightning, whose team is currently sitting in a tie for 4th:

We also managed to round up several members of previous winners Seawanhaka. Hugh Jones, Kyle Shattuck, Joel Hanneman, Tim Wadlow, and Nick Ewenson’s team is currently tied for second with Southern Yacht Club:

Ending the day with 45 races in the can,  we’ve got 21 races to go in the Round Robin. NHYC Thunder is in 1st, Seawanhaka & Southern tied for 2nd, and NHYC Lightning & St. Francis tied for 4th. You can always see the full results here. Further, we’ll be adding more video, pictures and team profiles as the weekend progresses. Tomorrow promises to be another beautiful day of racing. With the work week behind you, we expect to see you all down at the club this weekend.

Til tomorrow, we’re signing off with another video:
